RESUMO

The pharmacokinetics of meloxicam was studied in 1-, 6-, and 12-month-old sheep following a single intravenous (i.v.) dose of 1 mg/kg. The experiments were carried out when the Romanov sheep were 1 month old (7.93 ± 0.91 kg), 6 months old (27.47 ± 4.91 kg), and 12 months old (37.10 ± 3.64 kg). Meloxicam concentration in plasma was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography and the data collected were evaluated by non-compartmental kinetic analysis. Meloxicam was detected in the plasma up to 72 h following i.v. administration in all age groups. The volume of distribution at steady state (Vdss ) and total body clearance (ClT ) were significantly higher in 1-month-old (304.87 mL/kg and 16.57 mL/h/kg) than in 12-month-old (193.43 mL/kg and 10.50 mL/h/kg) sheep. The area under the concentration-time curve from 0 to 72 h value of meloxicam was lower in 1-month-old (58.51 h*µg/mL) compared to 12-month-old (92.59 h*µg/mL) sheep. There was no difference in t1/2ʎz value in different age groups. The body extraction ratio values for meloxicam ranged from 0.0186 to 0.0719 after i.v. administration in all age groups. Meloxicam showed an increase in plasma concentration and a decrease in Vdss and ClT in 12-month-old compared to 1-month-old sheep. Compared to 1-month-old and 12-month-old sheep, there was no difference in these parameters in 6-month-old sheep. Because the age of sheep has an influence on the pharmacokinetics of meloxicam, dosage apparently may need to be adjusted for age.

RESUMO

The increase in population in urban areas has increased the demand for housing. In cities that could not adapt to the population increase, the attempt to fit more houses in a unit area has emerged. This situation caused the application of created designs ignoring the natural and microclimate data of the cities. Since Erzurum is located on the high plain surrounded by mountains, it is one of the coldest cities in Turkey with its long-term annual mean temperature of 5.7 °C. The aim of this research is to reveal the effects of the urban morphology on thermal comfort and its relationship with air pollution in Erzurum. Steps of the research methodology can be summarized as determination of measurement areas, physiologically equivalent temperature (PET) analysis, air pollution analysis, and mapping. The city center is located at an altitude of 1850 m from the sea level, and the open rural area has the lowest altitude of 1650 m from the sea level with respect to the surrounding mountainous terrain. The microclimate data of the meteorological stations in the three study areas and government monitoring station and air pollution data have been recorded hourly in 2018. The recorded data was analyzed with the RayMan pro 2.1 model, which is a widely used simple index PET for obtaining outdoor thermal comfort. According to the research results, the highest PET value of Erzurum was obtained in the city center as 11.4 °C and then the urban transformation district as 6.3 °C, and the lowest PET was obtained from the open rural area as 4.5 °C. In the areas that have low PET values and cold stress issues, it was observed that the air pollution data are low. The city center was detected to have the highest air pollution parameters. It was determined that urban morphology, air pollution, and thermal comfort had significant correlations.

RESUMO

The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of the combination of soy protein, amylopectin, and chromium (SAC) on muscle protein synthesis and signal transduction pathways involved in protein synthesis (mTOR pathways, IGF-1, and AktSer473) and proteolysis (FOXO1Ser256; MURF1, MAFbx) after exercise. Thirty-five Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups: (1) control (C); (2) exercise (E); (3) exercise + soy protein (3.1 g/kg/day) (E + S); (4) exercise + soy protein + chromium (E + S + Cr); (5) exercise + soy protein + amylopectin + chromium (E + S + A + Cr). Post-exercise ingestion of SAC significantly increased the fractional rate of protein synthesis (FSR), insulin, glycogen, and amino acid levels with the highest effect observed in E + S + A + Cr group (P Ë‚ 0.05). However, SAC supplementation decreased the lactic acid concentration (P Ë‚ 0.05). A reduction in forkhead box protein O1 (FOXO1) and forkhead box protein O3 (FOXO3) (regulators of ubiquitin-related proteolysis) and muscle atrophy F-box (MAFbx) levels was noted after treatment with SAC (P < 0.05). Insulin-like growth factor 1(IGF-1) level was increased in the E + S, E + S + Cr, and E + S + A + Cr groups (P < 0.05). While the phosphorylation of 4E-BP1Thr37/46, AktSer473, mTORSer2448, and S6K1Thr389 levels increased after SAC supplementation, phosphorylated muscle ring finger 1 (MuRF-1, an E3-ubiquitin ligase gene) was found to be significantly lower compared with the E group (P Ë‚ 0.05). These results indicate that SAC supplementation improves FSR, insulin, and glycogen levels after exercise. SAC improves protein synthesis by inhibiting the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway and inducing anabolic metabolism.

RESUMO

Trees in urban areas are important for their ecological functions in addition to their esthetic characteristics. Trees provide positive effects on urban microclimate by canopy, reflection, and transpiration activities; therefore, they help to decline formation of heat island. The objective of this study was to determine thermal effects of 15 different tree types: 4 coniferous and 11 deciduous species commonly found in the city of Erzurum located at the northeastern part of Turkey. The relationships between sky view factor and surface temperature regarding the differences in leaf density and tree species. In August 2016, the surface temperature of trees was measured using a thermal camera at 10:00 am and 4:00 pm hours. Sky view factor (SVF) was obtained by fisheye photos and physiologically characteristics of trees were determined. In all trees while the surface temperature was 20.1 °C at 10:00 am, it was 23.4 °C at 4:00 pm. Among the deciduous tree species, Betula verrucosa Ehrh. and Robinia pseudoacacia "Umbracuifera" had the lowest surface temperature; however, Abies concolor (Gord. & Glen.) had the lowest surface temperature among the coniferous tree species. The results indicated that the surface temperatures of different tree species varied considerably, and the SVF value had a significant effect on tree surface temperatures. However, it was obtained that the leaf types had no statistically significant effect on tree surface temperature.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: There has been growing public concern on the effects of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) emitted by cellular phones on human health. Many studies have recently been published on this topic. However, possible consequences of the cellular phone usage on human sperm parameters have not been investigated adequately. METHODS: A total number of 27 males were enrolled in the study. The semen sample obtained from each participant was divided equally into two parts. One of the specimens was exposed to EMR emitted by an activated 900 MHz cellular phone, whereas the other was not. The concentration and motility of the specimens were compared to analyze the effects of EMR. Assessment of sperm movement in all specimens was performed using four criteria: (A) rapid progressive, (B) slow progressive, (C) nonprogressive, (D) no motility. RESULTS: Statistically significant changes were observed in the rapid progressive, slow progressive and no-motility categories of sperm movement. EMR exposure caused a subtle decrease in the rapid progressive and slow progressive sperm movement. It also caused an increase in the no-motility category of sperm movement. There was no statistically significant difference in the sperm concentration between two groups. CONCLUSIONS: These data suggest that EMR emitted by cellular phone influences human sperm motility. In addition to these acute adverse effects of EMR on sperm motility, long-term EMR exposure may lead to behavioral or structural changes of the male germ cell. These effects may be observed later in life, and they are to be investigated more seriously.
